We get this question all the time, and we’ve answered it in a few random places, but thought it might be better to lay out the whole story in a blog post.
If you never noticed, when you look closely at the control panel on the M108, you’ll see that the dials for blade speed, suction, and tumbler speed all go from 1-11. You’d expect to see dials like these go from 1-10. So why the heck do ours go to 11?
Well, the explanation starts with how we present ourselves as a company and brand. The Mobius Trimmer M108 is the choice of the largest and best cultivators in the world. It’s a high-end, high-performance machine. The brand language we use reflects the level of professionalism that our partners expect from us, as we are the industry authority on commercial-scale cannabis trimming. That means that humour associated with the brand needs to be professional too, and usually somewhat subtle. Having the dials go to 11 is our attempt at a chuckle-worthy joke, embedded right into the body of the Mobius Trimmer M108. But why is that funny, you might be asking…
Have you ever seen the movie This Is Spinal Tap from Christopher Guest? First of all, if you haven’t seen it you need to correct that mistake immediately. It’s hilarious. There’s a scene in the movie where one of the band members from Spinal Tap is explaining how they like to really crank up their amps… and guess what? The dials on their amps go to 11. You can see it in this clip.
So yes, we are professionals and have quickly established ourselves as the industry leader. That doesn’t mean we can’t crack some jokes here and there too!
